The mission of the Division of Sport Fish is to protect and improve the state’s sport fishery resources.This position works directly with area management biologists and contributes to the department’s missions and goals by supporting a project that provides critical information to area mangers for inseason management of the Russian River sockeye salmon stocks. The primary goals are to ensure that Alaska's renewable fish and wildlife resources and their habitats are conserved and managed on the sustained yield principle, and the use and development of these resources are in the best interest of the economy and well-being of the people of the state. This is a dynamic position with varying daily duties. In addition to these duties, this position is responsible for posting regulatory signage in the northern Kenai Peninsula area via road system or by river boat and assisting on other fishery projects when needed. Under general supervision of assistant area management fishery biologist, the incumbent will be responsible for conducting stream surveys, installing, maintaining and disassembling weir and field camp, scheduling crews, purchasing supplies and scheduling supply flights, collecting raw data and updating data files, scale aging, as well as administrative tasks such as field crew timesheets. This permanent seasonal position (approximately 5 months) serves as the crew leader for the Russian River adult salmon stock assessment project and provides support to management staff in Soldotna, AK.
